History of Dupont Property Lakes

Chan Hubbard shared this history of the lakes built on the original DuPont property.

Thanks to Chan and his daughter Connie Corn for their help to capture this!

Lake DERA

The lake was built when Silicon was no more.  Employees who were not laid off cleared the lake site.  Banks Construction built the dam to pay for the stone taken from the rock quarry on the property (i.e., rock was used by Banks Construction to build roads in Sherwood Forest).

Lake Dense

Built approximately 1978.  The original lake by the Cox family who owned the property before DuPont bought it.  The lake had some water in it.  Small trees were growing in the lake bed.  Manpower employees cleared the trees.  Morgan from Daniels Construction replaced part of the dam.  Water from Ben Cart’s Lake was piped through a 6” pipe to help maintain water in Lake Dense.  Built by Charles Paxton.

Lake Alford

Built in 1978 by Jim Hill and Channing Hubbard.

Lake Imaging

Built in 1982 for customers and potential customers to catch fish.  This lake has a good water supply for trout.  The other lakes would not allow trout to live in them — too warm.
